This Year's Theme

Lighting the Way to a Healthy Heart

We combined several concepts to form our theme this year: the NCEA theme for Catholic Schools Week: Catholic Schools Light the Way ; our state and national endeavor to promote a healthy lifestyle among our children; and most importantly, our own school logo: A Small School With a Big Heart . We strive to “Light the Way” in five key areas:

  • Spiritually -
    • Weaving this theme throughout the study of our faith in our classroom and school prayer experiences, i.e. morning prayers and our end of the day prayer;
    • Bringing our students to a better understanding of practicing acts of kindness and using their best manners even if no one notices
    • Using our common prayer space to make us aware of how our faith enlightens our own lives
  • Academically -
    • Developing a sense of a student’s pride in his/her work by doing their best and presenting it well;
    • Crafting our teaching/learning activities to reach all students through differentiated instruction, remedial or enrichment activities, and a variety of student assessments.
  • Physically -
    • Promoting healthy food choices in each student’s snacks and lunches;
    • Providing and encouraging physical activity during recess and physical education classes.
  • Socially -
    • Teaching manners, conflict resolution skills, good sportsmanship practices, and caring for our neighbors.
  • Globally -
    • Becoming aware of the greater world we live in through our service projects such as food and clothing drives as well as supporting the Ronald McDonald House and Leukemia Society;
    • Learning to take greater care of Earth in our local surroundings.

Our Mission

The admininstration, faculty and staff of St. Mary's School, existing as an extension of St. Mary's Parish, Ballston Spa, NY strive to provide a Catholic elementary education animated by the Gospel's spirit of love and created in an atmosphere of acedemic excellence.
